The Main Objective
The main objective of the programme is to monitor accountability and support the implementation of existing gender equality and justice laws, policies, and plans of action and enactment of new ones by the state.
WLSA focuses on Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), women, and girls to ensure inclusivity and equity in accessing legal services.
How Will WLSA Achieve This?
Focus on Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), women, and girls to ensure inclusivity and equity.
Provision of pre- and post-trial services, such as transportation for victims and witnesses, to enhance access to justice.
Develop a robust case management system for efficient handling of cases.
Follow up and monitor supported and referred cases to ensure accountability and effectiveness.
Facilitate community cadres to receive paralegal training, demystifying the law through the community paralegals model, and explore linkages with institutions like MSU, JSC, and LSZ for paralegal diploma programs.
Promote effective use of mobile apps, social media, and hotlines for legal empowerment and dissemination of information on laws and policies promoting gender equality and justice.
Engage in strategic litigation of cases to influence reforms of laws and policies.
Advocate for the state to provide legal and support services to marginalized and vulnerable groups, particularly women and girls, and strengthen the Legal Aid Directorate (LAD).
Support income-generation projects in operational areas and facilitate training on entrepreneurship to empower communities economically.
Conduct training on legal rights related to access to resources and unpaid care work to promote awareness and equitable practices.
