Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG)

Active Access to Justice and GBV

The project takes a preventative, responsive and advocacy approach to ending Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) — including sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), harmful practices and child marriages — by advancing the effectiveness of legislation, policies, national action plans and accountability systems. It works with grassroots Women's Rights Organisations, Young Women Human Rights Defenders, youth organisations and community-based organisations across four districts (Mbire, Marange, Beitbridge and Chiredzi) to drive legislative and policy reform. The approach is bottom-up: connecting local communities with CSO advocates to identify and act on national-level policy reform opportunities, thereby strengthening accountability. Alongside advocacy, the project builds the capacity of women's rights groups and human rights defenders to provide livelihood skills for GBV survivors and to engage policymakers directly at district and national leve

Advance the effectiveness and enforcement of legislation, policies, national action plans and accountability systems on ending VAWG, SGBV, harmful practices and child marriages.
Address GBV legislative and policy gaps by promoting the implementation of GBV laws and policies, and by partnering with and strengthening mandated government institutions to secure adequate GBV budgetary allocations and adherence to ratified conventions (SADC Gender Protocol, CEDAW, Maputo Protocol) — leading to comprehensive GBV services for marginalised women and girls.
Capacitate grassroots women's rights groups and women human rights defenders to provide livelihood skills for survivors and to engage policymakers directly, solidifying their visibility and holding duty bearers to account
